Postgres for time-series and events, from the team behind the TimescaleDB extension.
why this verdict
Keep paying — OpenAI has not replaced it
OpenAI's version overlaps, but does not finish the dev tools job, so this one still earns its $50/mo.

The backstory
TigerData, the company behind the TimescaleDB extension, made Postgres competitive for high-volume time-series without asking anyone to learn a new query language. Rebranded from Timescale, it moved decisively toward AI workloads with pgvector tooling and agent-facing infrastructure. The risk is that Postgres extensions are easy to adopt anywhere, so the moat is operational rather than technical, and the bet is that staying inside Postgres beats every specialist database that asks a team to migrate.
