The backstory
Storybook gives each component an isolated sandbox with controls, docs and visual test hooks. A big part of its appeal was seeing a component render without booting the whole application. Claude Artifacts and similar chat previews now render a component instantly from a prompt, so quick iteration no longer needs a configured harness. Storybook still anchors design systems, accessibility checks and visual regression pipelines at larger companies, which is why it is wounded rather than gone.
