The backstory
Cody's pitch was context: Sourcegraph's code graph meant the assistant actually knew your monorepo. That was a real advantage in 2023. By 2025 agentic coding tools read the repository directly, run tests, and hold a hundred thousand tokens of context without any indexing service. Sourcegraph refocused on enterprise code search and its Amp agent; the standalone Cody subscription lost its reason to exist.
