Rodin
3D generation model producing clean topology and PBR textures from images or text.
why this verdict
Keep paying — OpenAI has not replaced it
OpenAI's version overlaps, but does not finish the design job, so this one still earns its $20/mo.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked
- Open-weight 3D generation models catching up and removing the reason to pay per mesh. OpenAI, October 14, 2025 — no announcement link recorded yet.
- How much of the job it covers not the job editorial call
- Parts of it. The job still needs the tool to get finished.
- Is there a free way to do it? yes
- 3 of 3 listed replacements have a usable free tier: Meshy, Tripo and Blender.
- What the call is worth $240/yr

The backstory
Rodin, from Hyper3D, is one of the few 3D generators whose output has usable topology rather than the melted geometry that makes generated meshes unusable in production. That distinction is everything for game and product teams, because a mesh you have to retopologise by hand has saved nobody any time. Open models are closing in, and Rodin's lead on clean quads and material generation is the specific technical gap that has been slowest to close.
