The backstory
Retool is a fast way to build internal tools, admin panels, and dashboards by wiring UI components to your databases and APIs. AI can generate a CRUD interface from a prompt, but that's the easy part; safely connecting to production data with permissions, audit logs, and governance is not. Retool survived because the hard, defensible work is secure connectivity and enterprise controls around the data, not drawing the form.
