The backstory
Pieces stored code snippets with automatic tagging and later added a long-term memory of what you had been working on across apps. Saving snippets made sense when rewriting a piece of boilerplate was expensive. Copilot now reads the whole repository and regenerates that boilerplate in place, and IDE agents keep their own project context. A private library of past fragments is less valuable than a model that writes a fresh one that fits.
