The backstory
Metronome meters consumption in real time so a customer can see spend as it accrues rather than discovering it on an invoice, which matters enormously when the product is inference and the bill is volatile. Its customer list skews toward companies selling AI at scale, which is the fastest-growing billing problem in software. The category has two strong competitors and a giant circling it, and the technical bar, accurate metering at very high event volume, is high enough to keep the field small.
