JetBrains AI Assistant
A good in-IDE assistant, sold as an add-on to an IDE you already pay for.
why this verdict
Downgrade — pay for the workflow, not the AI
Continue.dev covers the headline feature free, so the $10/mo is now paying for the workflow around it.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked
- Claude Code and agentic CLIs work outside the IDE entirely. Anthropic, February 24, 2025 — no announcement link recorded yet.

- The headline feature, but not the workflow, data or integrations around it.
- Is there a free way to do it? yes

The backstory
JetBrains AI Assistant is competent and deeply integrated — it understands the project model, refactorings and inspections in a way a generic chat tool does not. The problem is the pricing shape: it is a second subscription on top of an IDE subscription, competing against agentic tools that operate on the whole repository from the terminal and are bundled into plans developers already hold. Wounded, and JetBrains knows it — the free tier exists for exactly this reason.
Escape hatches
switching could free up $120/yrAgentic coding in your terminal, on an existing subscription.
