Intercom is a customer messaging platform that bet the company on AI with Fin, an agent priced per resolution rather than per seat. DIY RAG bots can answer from your docs, but they don't carry the inbox, customer data, ticketing, and routing that turn an answer into a resolved case. Intercom survived because the platform plus the bot beats a bot alone, and outcome-based pricing aligned it with the AI shift instead of being run over by it.
