InfluxDB
Purpose-built time-series database for metrics, events and sensor data.

Downgrade — pay for the workflow, not the AI
TigerData and QuestDB cover the headline feature free, so the $250/mo is now paying for the workflow around it.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked
- Postgres and ClickHouse absorbing time-series workloads that no longer justify a separate database. Anthropic, July 8, 2025 — no announcement link recorded yet.
- How much of the job it covers headline only editorial call
- The headline feature, but not the workflow, data or integrations around it.
- Is there a free way to do it? yes
- 3 of 3 listed replacements have a usable free tier: TigerData, QuestDB and VictoriaMetrics.

The backstory
InfluxDB was the default answer for storing metrics before Prometheus took monitoring and ClickHouse took analytics. Its wounds are partly self-inflicted: the Flux query language, then the retreat back to SQL in version 3, cost years of ecosystem trust while rivals shipped Postgres compatibility. The rise of AI workloads should favour anyone storing dense numeric series, but teams increasingly reach for an extension on a database they already run rather than a new server to operate.
