The backstory
Hunyuan is Tencent's answer to owning a full generative stack, and releasing open weights across video and 3D put serious capability into the hands of anyone with a GPU. Its 3D generation in particular became a default in game asset pipelines. Being open-weight means it wins adoption without winning revenue, which is a strategic choice rather than a failure: the goal is ecosystem gravity and cloud pull-through rather than subscription income.
