Downgrade — pay for the workflow, not the AI

The backstory
GitBook hosts product documentation with Git sync, versioning and a search-friendly reading experience. Its job is helping people find an answer inside a body of text. Gemini and NotebookLM will now read a repository or a folder of markdown and answer the question directly, so readers arrive at docs sites less often. GitBook has responded with its own AI search and llms.txt output. Publishing, permissions and branded portals still sell, which keeps it standing.
