The backstory
Getty Images licenses premium stock, editorial and sports photography to media and brands worldwide. Native image generation is everywhere now, so generic commercial stock, the interchangeable business-handshake photo, is easy to replace with a prompt. Getty is wounded rather than killed because its defensible core is real: editorial and sports imagery of actual events and identifiable people, with cleared rights and provenance that a generated image can't supply. It also hedged by suing over training data and launching its own licensed generator.
