FLUX
The image model that became the open default.
why this verdict
Keep it — OpenAI has not replaced it
OpenAI's version overlaps, but does not finish the design job, so this one is still worth keeping open.

The backstory
FLUX, from Black Forest Labs (the team behind Stable Diffusion), is an open-weights image model known for strong prompt adherence and readable text in images. Because the weights are open, it became the quiet base that many image products run on rather than a consumer app competing head-on. Proprietary generators from big labs are strong, but open weights mean anyone can fine-tune, self-host and build on FLUX without a per-image fee. It survived precisely by being the open default others depend on.
