One payment, deep integration, and a job generation does not do.
NOT REALLY
why this verdict
Keep paying — Google has not replaced it
Google's version overlaps, but does not finish the video job, so this one still earns its $25/mo.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked
- Generated clips still need a professional timeline. Google, May 20, 2025 — no announcement link recorded yet.
- How much of the job it covers not the job editorial call
- Parts of it. The job still needs the tool to get finished.
- Is there a free way to do it? yes
- 1 of 2 listed replacements have a usable free tier: DaVinci Resolve.
- What the call is worth $300/yr

The backstory
Final Cut is a professional NLE with strong hardware integration and a single purchase price. Generative video produces clips; a feature edit needs multicam, colour, audio roles and delivery formats. If anything, editors now assemble more generated material, which increases timeline work.
