The backstory
Expensify built its brand on SmartScan pulling data off a photographed receipt. Multimodal models do that for a fraction of a cent, and every corporate card provider bundles expense capture with the card. Expensify is wounded: the policy engine and approval workflow remain, the OCR differentiator is gone.
