Encore
Backend framework that infers your cloud infrastructure from the application code.
why this verdict
Keep paying — Anthropic has not replaced it
Anthropic's version overlaps, but does not finish the dev tools job, so this one still earns its $49/mo.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked
- Coding agents writing infrastructure boilerplate that frameworks existed to eliminate. Anthropic, August 12, 2025 — no announcement link recorded yet.
- How much of the job it covers not the job editorial call
- Parts of it. The job still needs the tool to get finished.
- Is there a free way to do it? yes
- 2 of 3 listed replacements have a usable free tier: SST and Nitric.
- What the call is worth $588/yr

The backstory
Encore inverts infrastructure as code: you declare a database or a queue in your Go or TypeScript source, and it provisions the real thing in your cloud account from that declaration. Agents that emit Terraform on demand attack the premise that this is hard. Encore's answer is that generated infrastructure and application code drift apart the moment either changes, whereas a framework where the code is the infrastructure cannot drift, a property that becomes more valuable when a machine is doing the editing.
