Dagger
Programmable CI/CD engine that runs pipelines as code in containers, locally or in any CI.
why this verdict
Keep it — Anthropic has not replaced it
Anthropic's version overlaps, but does not finish the dev tools job, so this one is still worth keeping open.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked
- Coding agents writing CI YAML competently, weakening the argument against configuration files. Anthropic, June 18, 2025 — no announcement link recorded yet.
- How much of the job it covers not the job editorial call
- Parts of it. The job still needs the tool to get finished.
- Is there a free way to do it? yes
- 2 of 3 listed replacements have a usable free tier: Earthly and GitHub Actions.
- What the call is worth nothing to cancel
- No paid entry tier tracked, so there is no subscription to cancel.

The backstory
Dagger, from Docker's original founder, replaces YAML pipelines with real code that executes in containers, so a build runs identically on a laptop and in CI. The argument for it was that YAML is unmaintainable, which weakened when agents started writing YAML well. Dagger's pivot was sharper than the threat: it repositioned around running AI agents inside the same reproducible container environment, which turns an agent's unpredictable side effects into something sandboxed and cacheable.
