The backstory
Cypress made browser testing approachable with an in-browser runner and a debugging experience developers actually liked. Microsoft's Playwright has taken the technical lead on multi-browser support and parallelism, and Playwright MCP now lets agents open a real browser, explore a flow and emit the test file. Test authoring, the part Cypress optimised for, is the part agents automate first. Cypress Cloud recording and its large installed base keep it in service, but new projects increasingly start elsewhere.
