why this verdict
Downgrade — pay for the workflow, not the AI
Coveralls and SonarQube Cloud cover the headline feature free, so the $12/mo is now paying for the workflow around it.

The backstory
Codecov uploads coverage reports from CI and annotates pull requests with what is untested. Its value came from the fact that writing tests was expensive, so teams needed to police the gap. With Codex and similar agents generating test suites cheaply, coverage is easier to raise and the metric loses some of its bite as a gate. Codecov is still useful for tracking regressions and enforcing policy across large repos, so it holds ground while its urgency fades.
