The backstory
Chargebee handles the arithmetic nobody wants to write twice: proration, dunning, tax, multi-currency and revenue recognition across complex subscription plans. Its market got much harder when Stripe made billing a strong included feature rather than a separate purchase, and when usage-based AI pricing rewrote what a subscription even looks like. Chargebee's depth in enterprise revenue recognition and its multi-gateway support keep large customers, and the mid-market keeps drifting to whatever the payment processor includes.
